BLOWIN' IN THE WIND presented by Theatre Kelowna Society

THEATRE KELOWNA SOCIETY Presents BLOWIN' IN THE WIND "A Musical Revue featuring Folk Music of the 1960's" WHEN: September 16th to October 4th TIME: Evening shows Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm. Matinee Sundays only at 2 pm. PLACE: Black Box Theatre TICKETS: $25 + service charges in advance at www.selectyourtickets.com // Prospera Place Box Office 250-762-5050 // or $30 cash at the door Our Fall Show at the Black Box Theatre this year will be a musical revue featuring the folk music of the 1960’s. Due to the enormous popularity of our last tribute to the 1960’s “The Swingin’ Sixties,” we have decided to once again explore the large treasure trove of music from that era. This time however, we will visit the “folk revival” that started in about 1959. We are also pleased to feature more Canadian content, including the music of Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Ian & Sylvia and Leonard Cohen. This will be combined with music by great American folk singers such as Pete Seeger, The Weavers, The Kingston Trio, The Chad Mitchell Trio, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul & Mary, Tom Paxton, The Brothers Four and Simon & Garfunkel. We will also pay tribute to the comedy of the era that spawned the first “comedy albums” The show will be written and directed by Jeff Samin, who has put together many of the past Black Box shows. The show will run from September 16 to October 4. The Black Box Theatre is located at the rear of the Kelowna Community Theatre. Evening shows will run Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm with a matinee show on Sunday at 2 pm. The cast includes TKS regulars Shannon Bracken and Ashley Lewicki, and Kelowna musicians Jim Rhindress, Mike Minions, Darwyn Sloat, Ian Krebs and Gloriah Poulette with the possibility of others being added if time commitments allow them.

Theatre Kelowna - 2015/2016 Season Ticket Sale!

Theatre Kelowna Society, the city’s oldest active theatre group, is now 66 years old and still going strong. This year TKS will once again offer three productions. First up will be another of their popular Black Box shows, a musical revue featuring the folk music of the 1960’s. TKS is pleased to feature some great Canadian content, including the music of Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Ian & Sylvia and Leonard Cohen. This will be combined with music by such legendary American folk singers as Pete Seeger, The Kingston Trio, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul & Mary and Simon & Garfunkel. The cast includes TKS regulars Shannon Bracken and Ashley Lewicki, and Kelowna musicians Jim Rhindress, Mike Minions, Darwyn Sloat, Ian Krebs and Gloriah Poulette. The show is written and directed by Jeff Samin and will run from September 16 to October 4. Evening shows will run Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm with a matinee show on Sunday at 2 pm. Seating is limited so it is strongly recommended that tickets are purchased early. TKS’ second show, “Meet Me at the Snowflake Festival,” is a holiday show full of music, dance, comedy and song. The story follows the friendship of two young men that begins at the town’s annual Snowflake Festival in 1942 and continues through to 1999. The funny and touching story of their lives is intertwined with performances by professional and amateur groups from throughout our community. Expect a different show every night as various entertainers pop in for their cameos. Written and directed by local musicians Kim & Jim Rhindress, “Meet Me at the Snowflake Festival” embraces the true spirit of the holiday season and will showcase some of the top performance groups Kelowna has to offer. Fun for the whole family! Five shows only from November 26-29 at The Kelowna Community Theatre. The third production, “Any Number Can Die” by Fred Carmichael, is the hilarious take off on the mystery plays of the Twenties complete with sliding panels, robed figures, wills being read at midnight and mysterious deaths. The play is set in an unused island mansion off the coast of Carolina during a storm. Tension mounts as unexpected people arrive and secrets are revealed. Mix the isolated setting, the unusual people, a cryptic poem, an eerie mansion and a missing fortune and it all adds up to an intricate and inventive mystery off which the laughs bounce. The show is directed and designed by multiple OZone Festival award winner Brian Haigh and will run March 31, April 1-3 and April 7-10 in the lovely Mary Irwin Theatre, the best venue in Kelowna for intimate theatre. Mystery readers and audiences who love comedy will relish in this delightful production. Tickets for all shows are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by calling 250-762-5050 or in person at the Prospera Place Box Office, 1223 Water Street. Theatre Kelowna Society hopes that you can come and share in their fun this season, and help keep the magic of theatre alive. Please visit our website at www.theatrekelowna.org

Cinderella and the Silver Twig

Theatre Kelowna Society's 'Cinderella and the Silver Twig' kicks off the Festive Season with a Traditional Pantomime. Cinderella is still trying to get to the Royal Ball. It seems she is destined to miss the dance once again due to her never-ending list of chores. If only she could meet her prince, fall in love and live happily ever after. She may stand a chance of this 'dream' if only a kind, slightly confused Twig peddler can make wishes come true. Do you believe in magic? Can dreams become wishes that can come true? Will Cinderella make it to the Royal Ball this time? Join us in an evening of song and dance and, of course, magic!
