River Stone is a small, family owned and operated winery located in the South Okanagan. We are planted on a small knoll in the middle of the valley, just south of the well recognized McIntyre Bluff and just north of Oliver, BC, the Wine Capital of Canada.
The winery building and our home is surrounded by our hand-tended vineyard. When we moved to the Okanagan we chose this site for its superb grape-growing qualities and planted the vineyard with a Bordeaux-style blend in mind. As our name suggests, our unique site has deep, homogeneous rock and gravel soils laid down following the last glacial recession. This rock retains the heat of long, sunlit summer days into fall's cool nights and allow us to grow four red Bordeaux varietals very well. These are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer thrive in the cooler edges of the property. Our long imagined and carefully planned blend now exists and we call it Corner Stone.
This spring we will be releasing the first wines from this single vineyard. Previous vintages can be found in Laughing Stock's Portfolio, but these are the first wines commercially available that were made solely from the grapes of this special terroir. In addition to Corner Stone, which you will have to wait to the fall to enjoy, we will have a well balanced and delicious Pinot Gris and a vibrant and exciting Malbec Rose ready to enjoy in the summer of 2011. There will also be a small amount of a serendipitously superb Cabernat Franc.
Thank you for your interest in our winery and we look forward to seeing you this spring or summer. The first date our tasting room will be ready to welcome you is April 22nd. Please consider yourself invited.
