PR Media wins national award in public relations

PR Media communications campaign wins national award of excellence in public relations

The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) has named the communications program supporting the Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals Project among the best in the country.

Cam McAlpine, president of PR Media Strategic Communications, was recognized with a 2010 National Award of Excellence in Communications Management.

“To be recognized by my peers for the work we’ve done in helping Interior Health tell this wonderful story is gratifying,” said McAlpine, who runs PR Media, a Kelowna-based strategic communications firm. “I feel fortunate to have been involved a project that will bring such lasting improvements to patient care for Okanagan residents.”

The CPRS National Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding public relations campaigns, internal and external programs and tactics.

“The awards gala honours these recipients and brings together the ‘best of the best’ public relations professionals,” said Dr. Terry Flynn APR, FCPRS, Past National President of the CPRS.

McAlpine received his award for the “Building Patient Care in the Okanagan” communications program.

“This award recognizes the excellence of our entire communications team at Interior Health, as well as our partners at the Government of British Columbia, Partnerships BC and Infusion Health,” said McAlpine.

The Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals Project is a public private partnership that will see new patient care towers built in Kelowna and Vernon, as well as a clinical academic campus of the UBC Medical School at Kelowna General Hospital.

PRMedia is a communications consultancy with clients in Kelowna, Prince George and Vancouver. It specializes in public relations, stakeholder engagement, media relations and issues management.

The CPRS is a professional organization whose members are engaged in the practice, management or teaching of public relations. CPRS is a federation of over 1,800 members across 16 member societies. Cam McAlpine is a member of the Northern Lights Chapter of the CPRS.
