Community Futures Okanagan Similkameen on Our Okanagan:

The Community Futures Program is a federal government initiative, which was established in 1984 to assist rural communities in the development of strategies for dealing with a changing economic environment. The program is based on the philosophy that local decision-making and local development are the most effective means for communities to shape their future.

We believe that providing small businesses with resources leads to job creation and economic growth. Over the past 25 years, B.C. has become a small business economy. Community Futures has played a leading role in that growth by providing financing and small business training.

SUCCESSION PLANNING

In 2006 it was estimated that more than 40% of small business owners planned to leave their businesses in the next five years, and more than 70% within the next ten years. Yet up to 71% of these business owners didn’t have a plan on how to exit their business. We call these individuals “Generation Exit” – a whole generation of business owners wanting to exit the small business world. Are you one of these people?

Community Futures recognizes that without proper planning this exodus could be a problem for small rural communities. We are well aware of the social and political implications that this age advancement will create. But what is often overlooked is the impact this will have on businesses, as many business owners transition into retirement.

TRAINING & WORKSHOPS

Whether you are a new solo entrepreneur or a seasoned small business owner with several staff – investing in your business through training is money well spent.

Our staff members and trainers are small business experts who stay on top of business trends and our local business environment. They design our training courses and workshops with your needs in mind – so that they are relevant and convenient to busy entrepreneurs. Plus, they can help you connect to a wide network of business leaders committed to creating thriving rural economies.
