Vision Mate

CNIB is looking for a special person to be a Vision Mate! Make a difference in our community for people who are blind or partially sighted! CNIB has an immediate need for a volunteer in Coldstream to be a Vision Mate. This program provides community-based one-on-one sighted assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Duties include visiting with a client in their home or other suitable environment, participating in activities determined by client need such as reading, organizing, walking, and assisting with errands or outings. Must be trustworthy, reliable, friendly and empathetic. Full training provided. Commitment is at least 6 months, about 2 hours per week (or as decided by client and Vision Mate). CNIB offers the chance to be part of a passionate and dedicated team of people, and an opportunity to use and develop skills and experience in client service. Many of our volunteer positions would be perfect for a University or College student (or recent grad) studying in the social services field who would like to gain practical experience! We are very pleased to offer references and confirmation of hours for our volunteers. For more information or to obtain an application form, please contact Carrie Broughton, Coordinator, Volunteer Services 250-763-1191 or carrie.broughton (at) cnib.ca You can also apply online at: http://www.cnib.ca/en/about/CNIBForms/Pages/VolunteerAppForm_EN.aspx
