CDART®: the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team on Our Okanagan:

CDART®, the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team, is the official responder for the Regional District of the Central Okanagan in times of disasters and emergencies when domestic animals are in need of rescue and sheltering.

Our Mission:

  • To provide emergency services for domestic animals in the event of a disaster
  • To train volunteers in order that they can provide emergency shelter and rescue for domestic animals when responding during a disaster.
  • To raise funds for supplies, medical treatment for animals, training costs and expenses incurred by volunteers during a disaster.

CDART is the emergency animal rescue division of Critteraid, a registered not-for-profit society registered as The Summerland Cat Sanctuary based in Summerland, BC, Canada.

Members are mobilized when local authorities request CDART's help and when the Provincial Emergency Program's Emergency Social Services is activated.

In specific communities, CDART has long-time established teams but will answer requests for help through local, provincial and federal government agencies.

CDART consists entirely of volunteers and there are many volunteer opportunities with CDART in the following areas: Operations, Logistics, Safety, Planning and Search & Response. We are active throughout the year, training, fundraising, and preparing for disasters and emergencies.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact us at volunteering@cdart.org, or feel free to join us at one of our regular meetings, held the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We will announce the location of our meeting on our web site.
