Bumbershoot Theatre on Our Okanagan:

Bumbershoot Theatre is a not for profit registered charity, operating under an Artistic Director and governed by a board of Directors.  Bumbershoot Theatre launched Kelowna’s first ever children’s theatre January 29, 2009.

 

Bumbershoot Theatre, led by Artistic Director Tracy Ross, took to the stage launching two of its main components:  The Mainstage Series and the Young Performers Program. In its second season Bumbershoot Theatre implemented the secondary part of its plan, introducing its School Residency Program. 

 

Now in its 7th season, Bumbershoot Theatre continues to strive to form relationships and community partners to create innovative and inspiring opportunities for the people in our community.

 

Bumbershoot Theatre has 5 main programs:

 

1. Family Mainstage Series and Theatre for Teen Audiences Series

  • produce up to 5 family all-age productions per calendar year
  • produce 2 productions per year to provide deeper and more challenging programming for older audiences.

2. CAST Young Performers and Development Program

  • for youth ages 13-24 to enhance those gifts that we believe can be developed and explored through participation in the arts.

3. School Programming

  • working collaboration with School District 23, principals and individual teachers to provide a safe vehicle for risk taking and exploration through artistic forms

4. Workshops and Community Classes

  • community classes starting at age 3 to adult
  • fall, winter, spring sessions as well as Spring Break and Summer Camps

5. Apprenticeship Program

  • advanced training program for young performers by featuring up and coming young professionals and veteran stage actors in the Family Mainstage and Theatre for Teen Audience Series where possible.

 

Bumbershoot Theatre also endeavours to collaborate with other community groups and businesses to provide more opportunities to its participants as well as support other community activities. This is achieved by performing for or visiting other community groups, as well as creating partnerships for innovative programming.
