Arenbrook Acres on Our Okanagan:

Arenbrook Acres is, first and foremost, the home of a small-scale egg and poultry farm, offering its products for sale at farm-gate and delivery by pre-order. Focusing on animal welfare, Arenbrook Acres strives to produce quality, local poultry. Our next batch of poultry will be Cornish Gamehens, ready for late Semptember, in time for Thanksgiving as a great, compact alternative to turkey!

Arenbrook Acres is also home to Arenbrook Abattoir, which offers custom slaughter for small, non-quota poultry growers in the Central and North Okanagan. Poultry processed at this provincially licensed facility can be sold legally to a wholesaler or  retailers, restaurants or directly farm-gate to consumers. Helping farmers meet the demand for humanely slaughtered meats, Arenbrook Abattoir offers consumers a safe, ethical, and organic-compliant product.

Besides the farm, Arenbrook Acres also boasts custom crafts products including candles and historical costumes. Until Arenbrook Acres can be the home of its own apiary, Arenbrook has opened a part-time chandlery on the premises, specializing in scented and dyed beeswax and paraffin mixed pillar candles made from BC beeswax and paraffin wax. Furthermore, on Arenbrook you can also find a Costumery ready to help you finally have that custom costume you have always wanted. From Viking-era capes and tunics to high-medieval gowns fit for a princess, Arenbrook's seasonal Costumery can help you create your next custom costume. Our Costumery is operated by our resident, self-taught seamstress, during the Arenbrook Abattoir off-season (approximately December to April).

Custom Historical Costumes: Medieval, Victorian, and Every-Day FashionCustom Historical Costumes: Medieval, Victorian, and Every-Day Fashion

Paige Thompson, a self-taught seamstress and long-time costume aficionado, spends her farming off-season creating historical and fanciful costumes from a variety of famous eras and genres. Whether you need to intimidate the peasants when you go a-Viking or look smashing for your next Elizabethan ball, the Arenbrook Acres Costumery can create the garb for you.

From early medieval faux-fur trimmed capes and modest farm apparel to provocative tavern wench dresses and princess gowns, Paige has a range of experience in medieval costuming to help you custom-design the outfit that best suits your wishes.

Besides the time periods showcased in her gallery (http://arenbrook.com/costumery), she has an interest in Victorian, Edwardian, and Seam-Punk style costumes as well. Just let her know what you are looking for and together you can assess whether or not she can help you realize your costume vision.

Since working as part-owner and manager of Arenbrook Acres itself takes up the majority of her time, all orders are to be placed between December and April, with an expected completion time of approximately four weeks per outfit, after final sizing and fabric selection has occurred. Need a piece for an upcoming SCA event, Masque or Costume Party? Contact Paige Thompson to discuss period costume ideas and fabric types to best suit (or mimic!) the time period you are after.

To place an order or for more information about pricing, sizing, or fabric selection, please contact Paige Thompson at 250-379-2007 or 778- 215-0857 (cell).

Farm-Fresh EggsFarm-Fresh Eggs

With over 55 laying hens on the property, Arenbrook Acres produces approximately 3-4 dozen eggs a day in peak season. With access to garden and kitchen scraps and room to run free in their shelter, our chickens have a varied diet that maximizes flock health and egg quality. Our flock is currently comprised of Rhode Island Reds, but from time to time we add variety breeds to our flock that change our eggs from purely brown to occasionally green or white as well!

Our eggs sell for $3.50 per dozen at Arenbrook acres (for pre-arranged pick-up between 4-8PM weekdays and 10AM-8PM weekends) or $4.00 per dozen upon delivery. At this time we only offer delivery on purchases of 10 dozen eggs or more and only to addresses within the Falkland, Vernon, and Kelowna areas.

?Please call Paige Thompon at 250-379-2007 or 778-215-057 (cell) one week in advance for all new egg orders or to change your regularly scheduled pick-up or delivery details.

Arenbrook Acres raises poultry for sale direct at farm-gate and at small retail locations in Falkland and Kelowna, and produces eggs for sale on-farm.

Poultry batches are conducted in batches of 200 chickens and 150 turkeys twice per year, once in early spring around Easter and once in early-winter before Christmas.  The birds are guaranteed 1+ square foot of run-space per adult bird, ensuring adequate room to roam their living space and exercise naturally for a lean lifestyle that maximizes flock health and happiness. Broilers are grown 8 weeks and turkeys 14 weeks before processing, which prevents toughness in the meat and artificial weight gain at the end of their finishing period that can lead to excess fats in the end product.

Arenbrook chickens dress out at approximately 6-8 lbs and turkeys at 8-13 lbs, and all are processed on-site at the provincially inspected Arenbrook Abattoir.

In addition to our usual flock specifications, this year we are expanding into Cornish Gamehens, and our first batch will replace Thanksgiving turkey as a smaller alternative for smaller families and smaller ovens.

Call Peggy Thompson at 250-379-2007 to place an order for the upcoming batch—details on upcoming batches are found on our website (http://arenbrook.com/egg__poultry_production). You will be contacted one week prior to slaughter to confirm your interest, and be told when to arrive to pick up and pay for your product. Cost is $4.99 per lb for broiler chickens and $4.75 per lb for turkey.
